Day 5 of the KickGuessr 100 Days Challenge. The answer was Mohamed Salah.
If you follow football at any level, this one should have been immediate. The Egyptian King is one of the most recognisable footballers on the planet.
Here is what the clues were telling you.
Clue 1: The Egyptian King
Mohamed Salah was born on June 15, 1992, in Nagrig, a small village in the Gharbia Governorate of Egypt. He grew up in a modest household and began playing street football before joining the local club El Mokawloon at the age of 12.
His nickname — The Egyptian King — is not just marketing. In Egypt, Salah is a national hero. His face appears on walls, billboards, and every kind of merchandise imaginable. When Egypt qualified for the 2018 World Cup, it was largely because of Salah’s goals in the qualification campaign. His penalty in the final qualifying game sent an entire country into celebrations that lasted for days.
Clue 2: Premier League’s All-Time Top Scorer in a Single Season
In the 2017-18 season, Mohamed Salah scored 32 Premier League goals in 36 appearances for Liverpool — breaking the record for the most goals scored in a 38-game Premier League season. He also contributed 10 assists that season, finishing with 44 direct goal contributions.
The previous record of 31 goals had been held by Luis Suarez, his former Liverpool teammate. Salah beat it by one goal in fewer appearances.
That season transformed how people viewed Salah. He arrived at Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2017 for 42 million euros — a fee that seemed reasonable at the time. Within one season he was being discussed as one of the best players in the world.
Clue 3: Wears Number 11 at Liverpool
Mohamed Salah has worn the number 11 shirt at Liverpool since his arrival in 2017. The number has become synonymous with him — whenever anyone sees the red number 11 shirt, Salah is the first name that comes to mind.
He is Liverpool’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League era and has won the Premier League title, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup with the club.
The Chelsea Chapter Nobody Talks About
Before his success at Liverpool, Salah had a difficult spell at Chelsea. He joined Chelsea in January 2014 but made only 13 appearances before being loaned to Fiorentina and then Roma. Chelsea sold him permanently to Roma in 2016.
At the time, many observers wrote him off. Chelsea clearly did not believe he could succeed in the Premier League. Liverpool proved them wrong in the most emphatic way possible.
Salah’s journey from Chelsea reject to Liverpool legend is one of the great stories in Premier League history. It is also a reminder that one club’s decision to give up on a player can be another club’s greatest transfer business.
What Makes Salah Different
Salah’s most underrated quality is his consistency. He has scored over 20 Premier League goals in every full season he has played for Liverpool. That consistency across eight seasons at the top level is extremely rare.
His left foot is one of the most dangerous in world football. He cuts in from the right wing and shoots with his left — a movement so well-known that defenders prepare for it specifically, yet still cannot stop it.
