If you are playing the KickGuessr 100 Days Challenge, you already know that the bonus round features legendary players from previous generations. Knowing these five players — their clubs, their countries, their numbers, their stories — will give you an advantage when those questions arrive.
- Zinedine Zidane — France
Zinedine Zidane is widely considered one of the two or three greatest players in the history of football. He was born in Marseille, France, to Algerian immigrant parents. He wore the number 5 at Real Madrid — unusual for an attacking midfielder.
His career peaks were winning the World Cup with France in 1998 on home soil, winning the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2002 — scoring one of the most famous goals in the history of the competition with a left-footed volley that is still watched millions of times on YouTube every year — and winning the Ballon d’Or three times.
For quiz purposes, the key details are: French. Number 5. Real Madrid. Algeria-descended. Three Ballon d’Ors. And the headbutt in the 2006 World Cup final, which is the most discussed moment of his career despite it being an act of madness rather than genius.
- Ronaldinho — Brazil
Already covered in Day 30 of the challenge, but worth noting again for the bonus round. Brazilian. Barcelona. Number 10. Two Ballon d’Ors. The Bernabéu applause. These are the five facts you need.
- Thierry Henry — France
Thierry Henry is Arsenal’s all-time top scorer and one of the most complete centre-forwards in the history of the Premier League. He was born in Les Ulis, France, and came through the Monaco academy before joining Juventus and then Arsenal.
At Arsenal he wore the number 14 shirt — a number that is now retired in his honour by the club. He won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and the World Cup and European Championship with France. He moved to Barcelona in 2007, won La Liga and the Champions League, and then finished his career at New York Red Bulls.
For quiz purposes: French. Arsenal. Number 14. Premier League legend. World Cup winner.
- Diego Maradona — Argentina
Diego Maradona is the other candidate for greatest footballer of all time alongside Messi. He was born in Villa Fiorito, a poor neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, in 1960. He wore the number 10 shirt at Napoli and for Argentina.
He won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986 in Mexico — a tournament where he scored the Hand of God goal and the Goal of the Century within four minutes of each other against England in the quarter-final. Both goals in the same match, one fraudulent and one sublime, is the most extraordinary four-minute period in World Cup history.
For quiz purposes: Argentine. Number 10. Napoli. 1986 World Cup winner. Hand of God.
- Pelé — Brazil
Pelé is the only player to win three World Cups — 1958, 1962, and 1970 with Brazil. He was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in Três Corações, Brazil, in 1940. He spent the majority of his career at Santos FC in Brazil before finishing at New York Cosmos in the United States.
He scored over 1000 career goals — though some of these came in unofficial matches and the exact number is debated. He wore the number 10 shirt for Brazil in the 1970 World Cup, the tournament most football historians consider the greatest World Cup ever played.
He passed away in December 2022 at the age of 82.
For quiz purposes: Brazilian. Three World Cups. Santos. Number 10. The greatest scorer in history.
