Day 3 of the KickGuessr 100 Days Challenge. The answer was Kylian Mbappé.
Clue 3 caught a lot of people out. Wearing number 9 at Real Madrid was new information for fans who still think of him at PSG. If that clue confused you, that was intentional.
Here is what the clues were telling you.
Clue 1: World Cup Winner at Just 19 Years Old
Kylian Mbappé won the World Cup with France in 2018 at the age of 19. He became only the second teenager in history to score in a World Cup final — the first was Pelé in 1958. He scored four goals at that tournament and was named the best young player of the competition.
At 19, most players are still trying to break into their club’s first team. Mbappé had already won the biggest prize in football.
Clue 2: French Forward
Kylian Mbappé was born on December 20, 1998, in Bondy, a suburb of Paris. His father is from Cameroon and his mother is from Algeria. He grew up supporting Real Madrid as a child — and dreamed of one day playing for them.
He made his professional debut for Monaco at 16 and led them to the Ligue 1 title and the Champions League semi-final in the 2016-17 season. PSG signed him the following summer for 180 million euros.
Clue 3: Wears Number 9 at Real Madrid
In the summer of 2024, Kylian Mbappé finally joined Real Madrid — the club he had dreamed of playing for since childhood. He signed as a free agent after his contract at PSG expired.
The number 7 shirt was taken by Vinicius Jr. Mbappé was given the number 9. For a player who spent years wearing number 7 at PSG and for France, the change was significant. But Mbappé accepted it without complaint.
Why Mbappé Is the Future of Football
The debate about who will dominate world football after Messi and Ronaldo retire has one clear frontrunner — Kylian Mbappé. His combination of pace, technical ability, and goal-scoring instinct is rare in any generation of footballers.
His top speed has been measured at over 38 kilometres per hour during matches. That makes him one of the fastest players ever recorded in professional football. Defenders who are already in position struggle to deal with him because he can accelerate past them before they can react.
He has also shown he can perform at the biggest moments. His hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final against Argentina — when France were losing 2-0 in the second half — is one of the most dramatic individual performances in the history of the tournament.
The Number 9 Question
One interesting debate since Mbappé joined Real Madrid is whether his best position is as a number 9 — a central striker — or as a left winger where he played most of his career at PSG. At Real Madrid, manager Carlo Ancelotti has used him in various positions.
The early signs suggest Mbappé is adapting well to the central role. His movement, his finishing, and his link-up play with Vinicius Jr and Bellingham have given Real Madrid one of the most dangerous attacking lines in Europe.
